Creating Adults; NOT Raising Children
Creating Adults is my way of saying Parenting. The reason that I look at it this way is because essentially that is what a
parent is doing. You are not raising a child or children, you are creating a person that is going to grow and become an adult,
so you are in effect Creating Adults.
Childhood is a relatively short period of time in context of someone's whole life, and sadly this magical time is growing
shorter all the time. The current times put pressure on people to be more mature and more productive earlier and earlier in
our lives, so childhood therefore becomes shorter.
In my view, parenting is a lot like education, in that it is all about providing options for the future adult. The more that you
teach your children, the more you help them to understand what it takes to get along in this world, the more opportunities
you are going to be creating for them, and helping them to create for themselves, when they are older.
I do a lot of work in this area and have had a large amount of success working with parents and families to make a real
difference to the lives of the whole family. Parenting is not about surviving the childhood years, it is about teaching, guiding
and creating a person that will have to get along in the world.
I like to break it down into two different areas. Firstly there is the Parent, who is responsible for teaching the children the
Life Lessons that they are going to need to understand as they grow, and secondly there are the school teachers that are
there to provide the classroom type education. These are two different and distinct roles although they should be working in
harmony with each other, after all, that small child of today is going to be an adult sooner than you think, and they need to
know how get along. It is the responsibility of the parent to teach them the things that they need to know.
